Abstract

This present article shows Chiloe's migratory movements in the first half of the 20th century, analyzed under the anthropology and social imaginaries' perspective, the transmission and circulation processes of the representation models, as well as the meaning that operate on the voyage. The wander through several territories, it's institutionalized through dynamic processes, where the sense of this wandering life, despite being built from individual experiences, lives on through orally, to a collective imaginary which leads people to emigrate. The assimilation of different elements contained and shown in the travelers' stories, are incorporated into the island oral tradition, contributing to the maintenance or emergence of new central imaginaries that provide the sense of travelling.
